Avery’s father and devoted disciple of the Prophet came to the film through producer Paul Bernard. Joan praised his professionalism and ability as an actor faced with a very difficult role.

“Paul called David about the role in the film and he’s really an amazing guy – he got on a plane and he showed up, he knew his lines, he walked on set, he did his job brilliantly and he was completely charming with everybody.”


She commented on his portrayal of the father, “David played it just right. He played a man who truly believes in what he does. And what guts to play that part. He played the truth.”

You will also have seen David in The Ghost Whisperer, Return to Paradise, and Miss Match.

David has played Jennifer Love Hewitt’s husband for four seasons on the CBS series Ghost Whisperer.

David’s film roles include: Crazy starring Ali Lartner, Men of Honor starring Robert DeNiro and Cuba Gooding, Jr., Return to Paradise opposite Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn, and The Wedding Crashers opposite Owen Wilson.

Other television roles include: Alicia Silverstone’s mate in NBC’s Miss Match, Kim William’s love interest in ABC’s Relativity, and Carla Cugina’s suitor in the Hallmark Special A Season for Miracles.

His theater work includes: Tom Stoppard’s Indian Ink (American Premiere), Terrence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea on Broadway, opposite Blythe Danner and Ed Hermann, and Three Days of Rain directed by Joanne Woodward.

David recently won the New American Cinema Award at the Seattle International Film Festival for his ensemble work in The Weekend, which was shared with Deborah Kara Unger, D.B. Sweeney, Gena Rowlands, Brooke Shields, James Duval, Jarred Harris and Gary Dourdan.
