Steve is a method actor and also a member of the Actors Studio. Everyone was familiar with his range of work and he was cast sight unseen.

The Dallas-born actor began his career as a student of Lee Strasberg and the Actors Studio, becoming a regular fixture in New York theatre in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He caught the attention of Elia Kazan, who offered him his film debut with The Visitors.


His career was established with his leading role as cult leader and mass murderer, Charles Manson, in Helter Skelter, and again with his next role, Private Prewitt, in the mini-series remake of From Here to Eternity, starring opposite Kim Bassinger.

Steve co-starred with Peter O’Toole in The Stunt Man, which garnered a Golden Globe nomination for “New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture”.
Steve has worked in over fifty feature films and numerous television episodes including recent starring roles as a complex schizophrenic serial killer in In the Light of the Moon, and the title role in Ed Gein, for which Steve won the “Best Actor” Award from Fantafestival and Sitges Catalonian International Film Festival. He can be seen in the upcoming film Once Fallen, starring Ed Harris.
